Toffee sauce is a beloved dessert topping alongside the chocolate sauce. Making it is easy and requires just a few ingredients.

Simply let the ingredients melt and cook without stirring for the best results. Once done, you can serve it with your favourite desserts, such as our apple crumble slice, three-flour chocolate cake or fruit crumble.

Add a pinch of salt to this indulgent toffee sauce and pair it with our delicious peanut bar for a unique twist. It can be stored in a sterilised container in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Ingredients

For 200g of sauce, prep time 5 minutes, cooking time 25 minutes

  • 50g sugar
  • 50g butter
  • 200g double cream
  • salt flakes (optional)

Method

1 – In a saucepan, add butter, sugar and 150g double cream (keeping the rest of the double cream for later) and don’t stir.

2 – Place the saucepan on the stove and cook at a low temperature. Slowly all the ingredients will start to melt and bubble up. Avoid stirring the ingredients since this will compromise the final result.

3 – Cook the sauce until caramel-coloured, then add fresh double cream to prevent overcooking. Add a pinch of salt for a salted caramel flavour. Serve this toffee sauce with your favourite dessert or ice cream.

 Tips

  • This recipe works best if all the ingredients are at room temperature.
  • Add some fresh double cream to fix the crystallised caramel sauce and continue cooking briefly. Remove any sugar lumps by sifting the sauce.
